Glorious Easter Day

Our day started early when the alarm sounded at 4:45 AM. We were at church at 5:50 ready for the Easter Sunrise Service @ 6 AM. After the service, the youth served breakfast to the crowd and then a little over an hour later we were off to Sunday School. After the 10:30 service, we headed to Rossville to pick up Mama Jo then continued to Frankfort to pick up Grandma Mary. We ate a marvelous buffet at the country club and had a magnificent window view overlooking some green. After lunch we went back to Grandma Mary's duplex to veg out and enjoy the perfect weather. It was a fitting end to a glorious Easter day.

Easter Parade

Deke came into the kitchen wearing this ensemble and said, "I'm ready for Easter." I was somewhat impressed with the color coordination attempt.

Tomorrow after church, we are picking up our moms and heading to the country club in Frankfort for the Easter buffet. We've gone there for the past 3 years and it's very good. I'll be sure to post some Grandma pictures for your viewing.

By the way, HAPPY EASTER!

Milner's with Mama Jo

Every Friday I pick up Mama Jo and take her to Flora for her hair appointment. However, for the past 2 weeks, her hairdresser has been on vacation in Florida so I have been the beautician. Actually it's not been bad-her hair hasn't looked as fine as the professional look but I have to admit that it looks pretty darn good!! So today I thought I'd give you a tour through our Friday regimen.

Mama Jo was just coming out of her room when I arrived. I start her wash (usually 2 loads) then take her to her bathroom to wash her hair. After the hair is done, we walk to the laundryroom to check on her clothes, then head to one of the lounges to work on a jigsaw puzzle. After the clothes are done, we fold everything and put it all in her closet and chest of drawers. We sometimes watch an old movie or HGTV. I usually take her to the main lounge when I'm ready to leave and she sits in one of the platform rockers and watches TV or talks to the nurse whose desk is nearby. She has been known to answer the nurse's phone when the nurse is occupied otherwise. When I leave, she usually has about an hour before dinner is served so she helps the attendant set the table. There are presently 8 residents (two died recently) and they sit at two tables being served family style.

Last week I noticed that she had a cough and said something to the nurse. She said that they had already put a call in to Mom's doctor and he had prescribed Robitussin. When we were at Mark and Lori's over the weekend, I received a call from Milner's saying that Mom's cough was much worse so an X-ray was taken to just make sure there was no pneumonia. The X-ray was inconclusive so to be on the safe side, the Dr additionally prescribed a Z-pack because she was running a fever of 101. However, the X-ray did show congestive heart failure (fluid around the heart) so a diuretic was also given. Now, 5 days later, she still has the cough but is starting to perk up again. AND I think the diuretic has done wonders for her as she doesn't look as swollen as she has looked.

Just a Visit

We left on Friday to head to Illinois for a short visit with Mark, Lori and C-Bear.
While there, we did some decorating, landscape and maintenance jobs but mostly just enjoyed being together. The base OSC (Officer Spouse Club) sponsored an auction/trivia night so we all attended that and had a good time trying to outguess everyone there. Our table of 9 was decorated in the Nascar motif and was made up of 2 1/2 other couples (one husband was TDY) from Mark's squadron. Of the 20+ tables represented, we came out tying for 2nd place so we didn't embarrass ourselves horribly. Mark had to fly Sunday morning, so Lori, C-Bear, Deke and I met him at a Mexican restaurant after church. We started home around 2:00 and got back to IN just before dark.

The Big 89!

Saturday was Grandma Mary's 89th birthday. We celebrated by taking her to a wonderful restaurant downtown Lafayette, Bistro 501. The food was superb! Afterward, we went to Ken and Marian's house for cake and coffee. Max joined us there after having to conduct the band for the Purdue basketball game (they got trounced). Dianne was out of town and unable to join us. We had a great time and were happy we could be with Grandma Mary for her big day.

My Ship Has Come In

This past Tuesday, Lori swung by here on her way to Ft Wayne for an Ichthus meeting. She only stayed for a little bit but dropped off a precious cargo to stow for a couple of days- Miss C-Bear! It was so wonderful having a baby in the house again. We almost wrecked on the shoals Tue night, but it was smooth sailing for the rest of the journey. The two of them just left for their trip back home, and I hated to see them cast off. However, we've made a date to come see them the end of this month. So until then, I'll have to make do with snaps taken of the little miss.

Get me in my bed quick!

Now who are you again?

No way, Jose!
