Keeping You Up with the Joneses

Last evening we had a gathering of the Jones clan here to welcome Marna and Alice to Indiana. They had flown in a few days earlier and this was our only time to get all of the Joneses together. We feasted on Pizza King (what else) and ended our meal with apple pie, thawed wedding cake and ice cream. A good old-fashioned, down on the farm Hoosier meal!

My New Best Friends

Deke called me after he got to work this morning saying he had called my PA (whom I love) and had lined up a Dr appointment (see earlier post) for me at 11AM. He'd be home in time to get me there. The very long and the short of it is, I have 3 infections: gastrointestinal, sinus and ear. Dr. Deb (the one I love) prescribed an antibiotic, two nasal sprays and an expectorant. Told me to take it easy for two days and drink plenty of liquids. No Women of Faith Conference in Indy. No mowing. No hoeing. No driving. No nothing. So I'll be sticking around the old homestead for awhile.

Just a side note: Deke moved Gr Mary into Wesley's assisted living facility for a few days yesterday. He had called her that morning to see if she was taking her pills, and the confusion was alarming. While Deke was making his way to Frankfort, I called the manor nurse who rushed to Grandma's house finding a very confused and out-of-it lady. It was determined that moving her to the main facility was best to get her regulated on her new pain medication and to make sure she is getting the nutrition needed.

Pray for my poor husband. He's running ragged just trying to care for everyone on his love list.

Under the Weather

Under the weather. What in the world does that mean? Well, whatever it means, I'm under it! Monday night I had another case of diarrhea and then yesterday when I awakened, I knew something wasn't right. By 10 AM I was feverish and by 11 it was full-blown lie-on-the-couch misery. I didn't move off the couch until Deke got home at 6PM. He took my temp - 102.7. Eyes hurt, back hurt, body ached. Dragged myself to the bedroom. "Please give me something to knock me out." NyQuil.

Up this morning with only a slight fever. Eyes better but still feel like vegging on the couch. I've got a women's conference in Indy this weekend starting early tomorrow morning. I'm driving.

I'd post a picture of me in this state but seriously, it would break our computers. Just pray for me, please.

Couch, here I come.

The Wedding

OK. Here are some long-awaited pictures of our wedding. I about went crazy downloading them as Deke had to first reduce the sizes THEN I had to wait for all 260+ to thumbnail THEN try to download before my basement connection timed-out!!! I about went nuts! So I will send more as my sanity returns. Enjoy these in the meantime.

A Visit from Pennsylvania

Pam's father-in-law, Mark Porter, died a week ago so the family gathered here to stay for the funeral. They arrived Friday with the funeral on Saturday. On Sunday, Jeff flew home to Philadelphia, Nat took the kids and spent the afternoon at Columbian Park swimming, and the rest of us went to Wayne's for the annual family fish-fry. We picked up Opal, who was celebrating her 95th birthday that day, and took her with us to the fish-fry. We really had a great time seeing everyone and the day was perfect to spend out under a tent.

The Porter family left this morning for home and will arrive tomorrow. It's easier on the little kiddies when they stop halfway. We had a great time being together and I hated to see them go.

How's That Again?

Today was Mama Jo's birthday. When I called and ordered her cake last week, the lady asked me what I wanted on it. I said, "Happy Birthday Joan" and then added, she's an 88 year old woman. When Deke picked up the cake, written on the top was "Happy Birthday Joan (88 year old woman)." Good help is hard to get.
